But you’ll get a tried-and-true sushi meal in the heart of the neighborhood. So yes, you won’t get the atmosphere of an izakaya or a high-end tapas experience at Sushi Yashin. The main menu consists of sushi rolls, sashimi, soups, salads, and a diverse list of appetizers. Other lunch options include a selection of teriyaki bento boxes and tempura.Īnd as you know, it’s never to early to start your Park Slope kiddos on exciting food options, right? The kids’ menu gives you many an option, at only $7 a pop. The one adjustment we’d ask Sushi Yashin to make is to offer a sushi and sashimi lunch special combination. The salmon was a standout, and the lunch special comes with a house salad, rice, miso soup, and green tea. (Photo by Donny Levit / Park Slope Stoop) We went with the sashimi - the best option to taste the freshness of the fish. So onto the main event, right? The Sushi ($12.50) or Sashimi ($13) lunch specials are fairly-priced. The front seating area is comfortable for fitting high-chairs in, so kids are just fine. We stopped in for lunch, but you’ll do well here if you come for dinner, too. We didn’t experience an innovative Japanese meal, however we did have fresh fish prepared very well. The neighborhood’s sushi places run the gamut from serviceable to excellent. Perhaps that’s because Sushi Yashin is one of the new kids on the block, but this is the type of place that wants you to be satisfied. It’s not a grand space by any means, allowing those dining to get customized and - we really want to emphasize this - extremely friendly service. The small, clean, and bright environment has both traditional table seating as well as a sushi bar area that fits about eight people comfortably. The restaurant opened about eight weeks ago in the same space as the previous Corner Burger. With all that said, Sushi Yashin (381 5th Avenue at 6th Street) is a welcome addition to our list of new restaurants in the area. We’d bet that you’d have a maximum walk of 10 minutes to get to a local sushi place no matter where you stand in the neighborhood.Īnd if you want to add delivery options, well, you just may have a kitchen drawer stuffed just with sushi take-out menus. If you have a brief look at our sushi restaurant article and review archives, you’ll be reminded that the Slope is certainly not lacking in this food option (and we haven’t reviewed all of them).
